Rothko Exhibit at the St Louis Art Museum

by / June 21, 2014 Uncategorized one Comments

‘Tragic and Timeless: The Art of Mark Rothko’ is an exhibition running through September 2014 and features several loaned paintings which came about as part of a deal which sees several paintings loaned in the opposite direction.

You can learn more about this Rothko exhibit here. Few artists have quite the draw as Mark Rothko and this represents a key moment in the history of the St Louis Art Museum. As a further note, the artist’s son, Christopher Rothko, visited the Museum recently in order to give a short presentation about his father, which was entitled “Mark Rothko and the Inner World.”

The loaned paintings add to the existing collection of Rothko paintings at the Museum which include “Red, Orange, Orange on Red,” from 1962, and two late works on paper from 1969. The current collection is therefore sufficient to provide art fans with a good understanding of the career of this abstract artist.
